About the Author

"Poetry is my life because everything inspires me. My soul sits  open to experience each day fully... courageously and the gift to express this gratitude shows up in the most creative ways. Some call it an artistic expression of the human mind...I call it living."

Hasandra R. Heyward, MS

Hasandra has been writing poetry for 25 years.

She has received many Editor's Choice Poetry Awards, You' ve Been Spotted Peer Review Awards, and has been published in the anthology, A View from the Edge.

Her work has been used in counseling sessions to help drug addicted mothers and daughters communicate with each other, National Women's and Youth Lectureships and Conferences, graduation ceremonies, marriage retreats, and for on-demand writing assignments for other special occasions. Her first book of poetry, My Soul's Symphony was released March 2008.

Hasandra says that her greatest inspiration and joy comes from her husband Sherard and two boys, Brandon and Andrew. In addition, the gift to be inspired by the most unlikely things is her most cherished joy.

Her truly inspired project, Poetry With Purpose is opening her imaginative and creative expression in ways she never anticipated. She has embraced this project fully and enjoys making a difference in the lives of others.

Hasandra is eagerly anticipating her next poetry project, Inspired Breath Ballet.

"My music is playing each time I put pen to paper and the finished piece is my invitation to the world to dance with me".

"Never seek to create, allow expression to flow freely, that way the process is not controlled."

Meditation

How do you free the Spirit,

wrapped in swaddles of flesh

tainted by a world

filled with minds of conformity

and hearts of submission?

There exists a constant pull to return

to the Source, connect with

the Great Mystery that

is always there speaking a

language that can only be

heard in silence.

Closed mouth, opened eyes, quiet

heart...in this place I hear flowers

bloom before I behold their beauty;

smell the dew before it gently

touches my feet?

Common things disappear

in that place where the Mystery

and I are one; free of carnality.

My breath and the wind

ebb and flow spontaneously.

I have reached the level

of deep meditation.
